She can’t seem to get pregnant. He wanted to be a stagehand at the local theatre, but instead did A-Level Theatre Studies and studied drama at Manchester University in Ben Elton perfectly captures inconceivble voices – the laddish and insensitive Sam and the desperate and hormonal Lucy.
The book does warm-up after a while and I found myself reading more and feeling sorry for Sam in a way. Wenn nicht, dann nicht.

Lucy writes hers as Dear Penny, a childhood friend whilst Sam goes with dear book or sometimes without title. Showing the depts of pain a couple and family can go threw.

At times eltton is quite gender-stereotyped: Probably the most interesting thing about Inconceivable is the structure—it’s presented as alternating diary entries from a couple who are experiencing fertility issues. I really did enjoy this book less so the ending but Elton can be incohceivable and thought Elton did a wonderful job of a hard topic.
More recently he has had successes with three hit West End musicals, including the global phenomenon We Will Rock You.

But what I love about Ben Elton This is one of my favourite books and i have gone back to it time and again, because the characters, especially Sam are so endearing.

Ben Elton’s sixth book “Inconceivable” is the story of married couple Sam and Lucy and their attempts to have a baby. I don’t know why I liked that so much, but it really made me want to keep reading to see how long it took them to work it out.

For example, while Lucy deals with the constant ‘probing’ of doctors with stoic pragmatism, Sam dreads the looming ‘legal tug’ he has been practising for since puberty as only a man can.

Comparatively speaking, the male character was much more three-dimensional and convincingly developed. I never thought that such a sensitive issue could be tackled in a non-conventional way; hilarious BUT also heartbreaking at some point.
